She is remanded in custody pending Case No. 488 of 2019 and Case No. 855 of 2020


Solafa Magdy is an Egyptian journalist and works freely with several news sites interested in covering news in Egypt in a neutral manner, and because of her journalistic activities, she and her husband, Hossam El-Sayyad, were arrested on November 26, 2019 in a coffee shop in Cairo, and she was accused of publishing false news, misusing Social media and joining an illegal group in Case No. 488 of 2019.


She was physically assaulted and subjected to sexual harassment in prison and during interrogations, and despite her detention pending the first case, on August 31, 2020, she was charged in a new case No. 855 of 2020 on charges of joining an illegal group and publishing false news, which are the same charges in the first case.


To time, she is remanded in custody pending the case in Qanater Prison, and it is reported that in the last investigation session on 3 March 2021, Journalist Solafa Magdy’s detention was renewed for 45 days pending investigation, although the State Security Prosecution or National Security Investigations did not provide any evidence to prove the validity of the accusations against her.
