Ismail Al- Eskandrani
Investigative journalist and political sociology researcher

He was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in Case No. 18 of 2018 North Cairo Military Felonies.


Ismail Al- Eskandrani is a researcher in political sociology and the affairs of Islamic groups, and he has several research and newspaper articles on armed groups in Sinai, marginalization, forced displacement, and his criticism of the way the Egyptian army deals with armed groups in Sinai. 

He also worked as a journalist with several Egyptian and international press platforms and was nominated for the Reporters without Award Frontiers 2016.


Because of his journalistic and research activities, he was arrested on November 29, 2015 from Hurghada Airport on his return from Berlin and accused of joining an illegal group, broadcasting a military secret and spreading false news outside the country.


After that, the prosecution continued to automatically renew his detention several times, and after 30 months , on May 22, 2018, the researcher Ismail Al- Eskandrani was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in Case No. 18 of 2018.


To time, he is still imprisoned in Tora prison serving a 10-year prison sentence.
